The learning event should have a clear purpose and the educator must have the necessary experience and skills to ensure the lessons success and understand the objectives of the lesson. In this learning event third grade students will be taught through a lesson in social studies about the history and the significance of the American Flag and its relevance in American society. Learning Needs, Objectives, and Environment The lesson will provide the class of twenty two third grade students with knowledge on the importance of the flag in their community and in American history. The third graders will learn to recognize the distinct characteristics of the American flag and develop an understanding of the laws. Students will be instructed on how to properly fold the flag and will gain an understanding of its patriotic significance. This lesson is necessary for the third grader to respect the flag and begin to understand the freedoms afforded by this country that the flag represents.
