Public Safety and Privacy AnalysisNameClassDateProfessorPublic Safety and Privacy Analysis While the safety of the public is a major concern of the government and of the entire public it is never more important than the rights the framers of the constitution fought for to ensure the American government can never become oppressive and deny the citizen the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Despite this very important goal over time the government has slowly begun to usurp these rights by talking small pieces of these rights a little piece at a time. One piece of legislation that has been created for public safety but resulted in one of the greatest intrusions into the citizen's rights is the US Patriot Act. The US Patriot Act was the Bush administrations answer to the terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001. The Patriot Act was designed to expand the investigatory capabilities of police in order to ensure any further terrorist attacks are detected. This is ironic because the government was fully aware of the pending terrorist attacks on 9/11 and did nothing to protect citizens targeted by the terrorist group. Instead a law was creating allowing police to spy into the private citizens communications with the need for probable cause or even a warrant.
