Because these cases can be he said she said the defense attorney will introduce the past sexual history of the victim in order to make them look promiscuous there for at fault for any rape that occurred. When the victim is blamed in rape cases the goal of the defense is to ensure their client is found not guilty for the crime of rape. Women already feel guilty and blame themselves after crimes like rape making it easier for the defendant to get away with the crime. Using the rape victim example, blame can also come from friends and family members when they accuse the victim of not taking the necessary precautions to prevent the rape from occurring (2002). For example the victim was out late walking or they were drunk at a party. It is never the victim's fault they became a victim but some victims are just more vulnerable making it easier for the crime to be committed against them. For example a prostitute is vulnerable to being raped because of their profession.
