Upon arriving at the scene the crime scene investigator observed that the victim had suffered multiple sharp force injuries and the victim was dead. When fatal injuries to a victim are produced by a sharp instrument with sharp edges injuries it is referred to as a sharp force injury (Prahlow, 2010). The crime scene investigator will make a determination about the type of wound produced by the fatal sharp force injury. The three types of wounds that can be characterized as sharp force injuries are stab, incised, and chop wounds. Through the observation of the wounds the forensic investigator will make a determination of what type of knife committed the wounds on the victim. The wounds could have been made by a single-edged knife, double-edged knife, or a serrated knife.
