1. Describe what a relational database is and why relational databases areneeded.A simple database is a program that has ability to store and retire data rapidly as per userrequirements. Database have been in use by business since start of computer era howeverdatabase were in shape of one long text file called Tab delimited file or Flat file databases .It was text based data storage in single file where each entry was separated withuse of special characters. Each record about person, or groups had different types ofinformation grouped together. It was very difficult to search and create report of requireddata.(Colin,2005)In early 1960s there were two navigational data models hierarchical model , and Codasylmodel were used by businesses these both had manual facility to search and navigaterecords. In 1970 E.F Codd from IBM wrote many papers introducing new approach todatabase development that later formed the basis of relational database. Since then itbecame standard and popular model for databases.According to Jain (2009 ) A relational data base is data base where data is organized intocollection of relations. The relation is mathematical term used for this type of databasemodel that has underlying basis on mathematics.(Hector,2008 ). The data is stored in formof tables that are interlinked in (relation) making retrieve, search and navigation ofrequired data easy. With use of relational database user can compare information veryquickly due to tabular
