The two theories I chose to compare and contrast are the choice theories and the sociological theories. The choice theory states, "Crime is the choice of rational choices made by those who want to engage in the criminal activity for the rewards that it offers". The sociological theory says, "Crime is not something a person is born to do. Instead it is the social conditions under which a person finds himself or herself". These two theories I find have many differences and similarities.One of the differences between the two theories is the choice theory supports criminal activity based strictly on the financial gain and sometimes the thrill of the crime; where sociological theory says those who are disadvantaged due to poverty or other things such as racism or being a minority.
