The threat assessment will alert security staff to the extent of the risks and where the threats will come from. In order to stop targeted violence against the white supremacists the correctional staff will need to be proactive. The appraisal of risk in a threat assessment focuses on actions, communications, and specific circumstances that might suggest that an individual intends to mount an attack and is engaged in planning or preparing for that event (Pinkerton Security, 2012). If the threat assessment develops information on threats to the target steps will need to be taken to reduce the threat to the criminal defendant.
