The UK and other European Union member countries have held onto their commitment to meet the set target of 0.7% of GNI (Gross National Income) to be used for foreign aid purposes in third world countries. In 2013, statistics shows that there was a great improvement in meeting the set target of foreign aid by most countries. UK government through the ODA (Official Development Assistance) contributed 0.72% of its GNI to go to foreign aid. Also, countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Luxembourg dedicated more than 0.7% of their Gross National Incomes to fund foreign aid. Although, the developed countries strive to meet this set target of 0.7% of their National Incomes, a lot of criticisms has been raised to denounce the viability of their governments to spend such huge sums of National Income on aid.
