AntigoneWe are able to observe tragic flaws in Antigone's wild dedication to her family. While steadfastness in itself is not a dreadful mistake, Antigone's amazing reliability does at last leads to her defeat and cause much more disaster in Thebes. Antigone demonstrates her familial devotion when, after her siblings execute one another, King Creon states that only one of the siblings is to be honored by receiving a proper burial. The other sibling is shamed and must be left to rot. Antigone resists and defiles King Creon's requests by burying her fallen sibling regardless of the law restricting the demonstration. Antigone's furious dedication is fully shown when she announces that she'll bury Polyneices; an act defiling Creon's direct law. It is this insubordinate demonstration and Antigone's resolved unwaveringness to the memory of her sibling that structures the spine of the play.
