Tutor description

The human resource practices in this particular mini case align somewhat with the business strategies of the companies mention because it is evident that both companies are now working towards integrating women into their work environment due to the recent laws implemented regarding gender discrimination by the Korean government. It does appear though, that both companies are still struggling with the concept of allowing women to take on senior roles within the organization, particularly with the statement made by a senior member at SK Telecom that “he avoids hiring women because he believes they lack tenacity” (Ihlwain, 2008, p58). It appears that he still has the old way of thinking regarding the position and ability of women in the work environment. This is also supported by the fact that only “eight (8%) percent of women are in top management positions amongst the top 400 companies” in Korea.
