On the 26th of January, 2001 at 8:46am, while everyone was enjoying the 52nd Republic Day, two continental plates moving towards each other built up pressure and eventually released it. In a split second, some of the biggest buildings collapsed like a house or cards. In just two minutes, it was one of the two most deadly earthquakes that struck the world. The earthquake measured 7.9 on the Richter scale. This earthquake is known as the Gujarat Earthquake.
