After King Kamehamehaʻs death in 1819, the kingdom was left with his kauoha or will which stated who was to rule next. Liholiho his son,was given the throne and was appointed as the new Mōʻī (Kameʻeleihiwa 2008: 68). Kamehameha didn't forget his favorable wife, Kaʻahumanu and gave her the position of Kuhina Nui.
