Most earthquakes occur along the fault lineswhen the plates slide past each other or collideagainst each other.The shifting masses send out shock waves that may bepowerful enough to alter the surface of the Earth,thrusting up cliffs and opening great cracks in theground and cause great damage, collapse of buildingsand other man-made structures, broken power and gaslines, landslides,, tsunamis and volcanic eruption.Effects of EarthquakesEarthquakes led to a great destruction of life and property.Breaking up or rupture of ground at places causes:Land slides in hilly areasSoil to get liquefiedand loose itsstrengthSometimes, earthquakes can alsocause huge disturbances in theoceans.
