Deviance1JKInstructor Brittany SmithPrinciples of SociologyDateDevianceDeviance2Deviance is defined as being different from the social norms of behavior, such asnegative behavior. Deviant behavior can bring about negative and positive social changes. Someways that deviant behavior can bring about social change negatively are that it can create riots, crime, violence in many different forms, rebellion, and a lot of conflict. But it can also bringpeople together for a common cause like after the 9/11 terrorists attacks. It can clarify moralboundaries like legalizing marriage or marijuana. And I do not think that deviant behavior isalways negative behavior. Sometimes people are deviant against certain rule that they do notagree with that may go against their personal religion. Being different is deviant in a way.I think that tattoos and body modifications are about a 50/50 towards being sociallyacceptable. I see a lot of people whom have many tattoos and piercings, I myself have a tattooand a few piercings. But I also see people whom create these Facebook pages that go againsttattoos and piercings. I would say that they are a little bit more social
