Their first mission is to regulate securitiesmarkets by setting rules and procedures that create a fair ground, maintain order and fosterefficiency. Their second mandate is to protect investors from things like fraud and loss of moneyamong others; they do this first of all by conducting investor education. In case of disputes theyfollow up on behalf of the investor and have an enforcement division that carries outinvestigations and where appropriate prosecutes civil suits and carries out administrativeproceedings. It however does not serve as attorneys for individual investors who are in disputewith either brokers or financial advisors.
