The term solid waste is used in place of the ordinary termwaste, and solid waste under this definition refers to any waste whether liquid, semisolid orsolid. Alternatively, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) definessolid waste as sludge, refuse, garbage, or other cast-off material (such as contained gases,solid liquids, and semi-solids) (EPA, 2015). Once a waste has been classified as a solidwaste, it will then be identified as either hazardous waste or environmental friendly waste.Therefore, in basic structure, a hazardous waste is a solid waste having chemical properties aswell as other chemical composition that can cause adverse effect to the environment, plants,animals, and human when disposed to the environment or mismanaged (Fuller, 2010).The creation of a regulatory program to ensure that such perilous wastes are handledsafely requires a far more detailed definition of hazardous waste. In effect, the US-EPAdeveloped identification regulations for hazardous waste to determine whether a waste can beconsidered hazardous or not.
