Running head: PREVALENT FAMILY DYNAMICS AT MY OWN HOMEPrevalent Family Dynamics at My HomeStudents NameInstitution1PREVALENT FAMILY DYNAMICS AT MY OWN HOME2My parents come from the previous generation before the present; hence they inclinedmuch towards the beliefs and tendencies of the previous generation. This means that things thatmay be tolerated in the present generation may not be so appealing to them. For instance, myparents do not encourage young boys and young girls to spend so much time together, particularly without supervision. The dynamic that I conceive as having the most impact on mydevelopment in the course of my childhood and adolescence would be gender.I never really understood why, but as a child, my mother had the tendency of separatingme from playing with girls a lot. She always brought out the picture that they were bad news andthat they were up to no good. Now as an adult, I find that ironic considering that she is of thesame gender. In my family, the roles for boys and girls were clearly defined. Boys essentially didmanual work, or anything that required physical strength to accomplish. Hence, boys oftencarried heavy objects, and protected the women from any danger, while the women essentiallydid chores like cooking, washing the dishes and taking care of the home.Considering the above-stated perspectives, I grew up with the idea that women weredifferent from men, and that there are particular roles that they ought to play.
