This face is then used to help identify the skull that has been located. Facial reconstruction is important because it help police to identify the bones that have been located. When bodies are found when they have turned into a skeleton it is much harder for forensic examiners to identify the body. There is no fingerprints left on the skeleton to help point to their identity and there is no DNA left to match the body to missing people in the country. Through facial reconstruction the forensic artist can create a likeness that can then be used for a visual aid for the public. When the picture of the newly reconstructed skull is released to the public the police can develop leads on the identity of the unknown person. Secondly even if police are aware that someone has gone missing in the area it is impossible to distinguish one bone from another especially if the body has been left in the elements.
