Glossary of terms.Accent: Accent' refers to the pronunciation of a language. The word accent is oftenconfused with dialect, which refers to more than a variation of pronunciation. Dialectrefers to a unique variety of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. In fact,everyone speaks with an accent. Some accents, however, like British or AmericanEnglish, are standardized forms of the language.Allusion : An allusion refers to a place, event or literary work. The reader makes theconnection to the referred material on their own.Analogy: An analogy helps us describe a new idea with the blueprint of an old one. Itis based on the similarities between the ideas.Anti-advertising: An anti-ad informs the viewer of the conventions of advertising.While breaking the rules of advertising, the anti-ad divulges the tricks played byadvertisers.Appeal to authority: Appeal to authority is an argumentation technique, in which onerefers to a source that claims to have authority.
