Osbourne Reynolds Demonstration1.0 ABSTRACTThe objectives of handling this experiment are to study the characteristics of laminar, turbulent and transition flows by calculating the Reynolds number of each flow and by observing the behavior of the flow itself. Besides that, this experiment is in conduct in order to determine the range for laminar and turbulent flow as well as to prove that Reynolds number is dimensionless by calculating by using the formula. The experiment was started with laminar flow. In order to obtain the laminar flow, the valve for the water inlet was adjusted so that the laminar flow can be achieved. The flows for laminar is slow, so the water inlet is small. After obtain the specific flow, amount of water was collected 5 seconds. Then, by using the formula, the Reynolds number can be obtained. The water was collected for 3 times in order to obtain the average or to know the range for the flow. The experiment was repeated by alter the valve so that the water inlet changes in order to obtained turbulent or transitional flow. At the same time, when collecting the water, the behavior of the flow which maybe laminar, turbulent or transitional flow is observed. The result obtained has showed the range for laminar, turbulent and transitional flow. For laminar flow, the Reynolds number must be less than 2100.
