Tutor description

Albert Bandura brought forth the social learning theory. In this theory, he studied how violence portrayed in the mass media would have an affect upon children. One of these effects was modeling. A child would internalize what he or she saw and imitate the behavior. • Do you believe violence in the mass media and in video games contributes to the violence of youth? Why or why not? • How could the effects of this violence on children be negated? • Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

CRJS315-DB3NameClassDateProfessorCRJS315-DB3 Based on Albert Bandura's social learning theory deviant behavior is learned when it is first observed and the modeled by the youth. When youths observe violence through media outlets the belief is they will model they behavior they have observed. In order for the observation, however, to be modeled it must first be internalized. What this means is the youth must be influenced by the persons behavior they are modeling. This would make parent, educator, and peers the most important models in the child's life but the media is considered to be another potential model. In order for behavior that is observed to become internalized the youth must first pay attention to the model and then encode the behavior so it can be later imitated (McLeod, 2009). Bandura believed if youths are constantly exposed to violence on television they would internalize and then imitate the violet behavior that is observed. The type of media sources that youth are most commonly exposed to violence is television, movies, internet, and video games. In general women will model the behavior of women while boy will model behavior of me
