The decision on which style to employ comes down to the requirements and challenges facing the organization at a particular point in time. In some instances, an overlap of two or more approaches towards management may be permissible based on certain factors or circumstances. The business leader should therefore uphold flexibility in choosing particular leadership styles to achieve maximum success. Ultimately, the hallmark of a good leader is the ability to decide on which styles to use based less on their personal preferences and more on the needs of the organization (Graen & Dansereau, 1972).Time is a major determining factor when deciding on a style of leadership. In a startup company, it may be prudent for the leader to be involved in every major decision with regards to the company. However, as the company grows and curves a niche for itself in the industry, the leader may be able to give more leeway to other members of the company and employees. The employees themselves also play a part in choosing a leadership style. Creative and experienced employees work best with minimum supervision and greater power in the decision making process.
