Critical Analysis of Rock n Roll Deviance is behaving against social and cultural norms. Society normally behaves in a certain pattern which repeats within groups of people. These norms are considered way of living in a social circle which when violated and tried to live differently causes relative abnormality. This relative abnormality of not following a pattern adopted by the society is called deviance. Deviance is relative because normality could differ from person to person. One group of people may think normal to wear short dresses and bikinis in social gathering whereas this type of actions might be deviance to a group of fundamental Muslim social circle where wearing short dresses and transparent clothes is considered unethical. So what is normal to one group could be deviance to another. Difference in cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and parenting methodology are the factors on larger scale which affects the concepts of relative abnormality. Rock n Roll music genre was effected largely by the concept of deviance. This music genre was criticized initially by public and critics. Rock n Roll discussed topic which were considered anti-Christian and there was a sense of revolt against society and states thought as anti-patriotic. People who listened to music had never experienced lyrical and compositional music such as Rock n Roll so it created deviance for people. It became one of the most influential and heard music genres of all time
