Crimes tend to be referred to activities that break the law and are subject to any official punishment towards those who commit the crime, (Holborn, Haralambos, 2000). When it comes to the social norms of the society, they are always accompanied by different sanctions that usually promote conformity as well as protects against what is known as the non-conformity. To define sanction, it is referred as any reaction that comes from a person's behavior or a group that is to ensure compliance amongst a given norm. Sanctions can either be positive or negative, in which positive refers to the offering of a certain award, or negative which results in a punishment that does not conform to the society, (Haralambos, Holborn, 2000). When you compare deviance with crime, it is just short of crime, almost having the same meaning within a society. In fact, there is sometimes the society accepts crime and deviance as the same thing, however; not in every case that comes in front of them.
