Health Reforms in the United StatesPresident Harry S. Truman was the first person to introduce major reforms in the healthcare department after the World War 2. He extended the cause initiated by Franklin D. Roosevelt who died before the end of World War 2 and who intended to address the issues of accessibility of medical coverage but could not achieve his ambitions. Truman proposed the bill containing the basic structured insurance coverage program based on single payer governmental system according to which the National Health Insurance Board would pay for the health insurance of general public. The bill was opposed on a large scale by many opponents especially American Medical Association and was finally declined and rejected by the congress. In 1948, Truman started his struggle for health reforms again in 1948 but the war of Korea and its implications played a role to dismiss the bill once again. The efforts of Truman were not nullified completely; he achieved the reforms of introducing modernized health care units and passed to increase the number of medical institutes in the United States.
