The debate was about the different views of both painters regarding a painting. They both had different artistic views; Poussin believed that the most important thing in a painting is the drawing and use of lines whereas Rubens believed that the most important factor in a painting is its colors. According to Rubens colors appeal to everyone whereas lines and drawing only appeal to a few people. The two paintings I have chosen to compare are A dance to the music of time which was painted by Nicolas Poussin between 1634 and 1636 and The Descent from the cross made by Peter Paul Rubens between 1612 and 1614. The painting made by Poussin does not have vibrant and aggressive colors as compared to Rubens painting but the details
