The most effective treatment of substance-abuse offenders comes from a certain level of commitment from the staff at local jails and a significant amount of resources at ones disposal. There are certain levels of support that will affect an offender and, in theory, assist them for their future. The entire point of a rehabilitation and resources is to punish, assist and correct. The purpose of this memo is to revise the substance abuse treatment policies at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton. Criminal justice intervention and treatment within the facility will greatly improve the individuals and the system in its entirety. Not every individual who uses drugs will become addicted or may not ever commit a crime (aside from the drug usage themselves). However, the use of drugs in themselves can cause crimes.
