This man, who spent the majority of his life in correctional facilities, and did nothing more impressive than learn to play guitar, emerged from his incarceration in March 1967, with a loose hold on his sanity and very twisted view of reality. He began acquiring followers in the summer of 1967, the first being Mary Brunner. He collected a multitude of young girls at first and used them to lure men to his side. This man striped the people drawn to him of their identity and they were very literally copies of himself. Charlie Manson, the leader of this group, had such a firm hold on the minds of the members of his "Family", as he referred to the group, that they would commit murder for him without the slightest bit of remorse for their victims. Charlie Manson was a different type of leader; he did not aspire to correct the social rift between the blacks and whites. Jim Jones was similar to Charlie Manson in that they both managed to convince a group of people to do as they wished. The length that devoted followers will go for their leader is sometimes limitless.
