INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGYSince ancient times, people have been fascinated by the relationship between individuals and the societies to which they belong. Many of the topics that are central to modern sociological scholarship were studied by ancient philosophers. Many of these earlier thinkers were motivated by their desire to describe an ideal society. What has sociology got to do with our life? Let us say are we influence by what we see on television? Do you use the Internet? Did you vote in the last election? Are you familiar with binge drinking on campus? Do you use alternative medicine? These are just a few of the everyday life situations told to our self. Thus we use sociology to investigate why thousands of jobs have moved from the United States to developing nations, what social forces promote prejudice, what leads someone to join a social movement and work for social change, how access to computer technology can reduce social inequality, and why relationship between men and women in Seattle differ from those in Singapore.Sociology is, very simple, the systematic study of social behavior and human groups. It focuses on social relationships, how these relationships influence peoples behavior, and how societies, the sum total of these relationships, develop and change.Sociology is one attempt to understand the human being. It centers on our social life. It does not focus on the individuals personality as the cause of behavior, but examines social interaction,
