The target population was Ethiopian immigrants in Canada, Toronto. The subject of interests was married couples, and those separated or divorced after migration. From the research findings, it had been proven that there were negative impacts on the marital relationship, which were consistent to other journals findings. However, this paper also documented positive impacts and supplements research data on migration impact on a couple unit rather than individual basis. 2. The 4 different sociology perspectives are functionalist, social action, conflict and feminist. The functionalist perspective views the society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability (Macionis & Plummer, 200: 24). In the journal, the family is the complex system where both husband and wife will have to work together to maintain equilibrium and stability in their marriage. Changes to the womens role in the family brought by migration include economic independence, greater authority in decision-making and control over resources (pp. 150). Between the married couples, it also encouraged greater mutual dependence and autonomy, improved communication and intimacy and joint decision making (pp. 160).
