Non- verbal cues, for example, should correspond to the message a communicator implies. A child might misinterpret a message when a parent is advising them against bad behavior while smiling or laughing. Mixed messages refer to instances where the recipient interprets a message to mean a very different thing. A recipients understanding of a messages undergoes a distortion due to a number of factors e.g. physical communication barriers, noise, emotional factors, etc.Full of interruptions: These come in many ways and occur while one is trying to pass a message. Interruptions might emanate from the sender or the receiver. Lack of active listening and attention: Emotions, physical distractions and psychological problems are some of the causes of lack of attention and active listening in communication processes (Friel J and Friel L. 2010). Misunderstandings: This is the primary cause of a dysfunctional family. Due to mixed and distorted messages, family members fail to get the messages thereby misunderstanding each
