Various principles of automotive system have been analyzed. Optimization was formulated in two cases. Multiple Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) was employed to solve multi-objective problem and single genetic algorithm was implemented for the second case. From the first case, an optimal design layout for intake and exhaust system was chosen from Pareto-optimum solutions. The best timing for the intake and exhaust valve was evaluated at each engine speed. This experiment can be very useful in developing Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system for an engine. Effects of genetic algorithm parameter were analyzed and the best arrangement was selected.
