Tutor description

Objectives I. To observe the chemical behavior of Iodine, Chlorine, and Sulfate anions. II. To determine the presence of iodine, chlorine, and sulfate ions in an unknown solution. III. To observe the behavior of calcium, sodium and potassium cations. IV. To determine the presence of Calcium, Barium and Magnesium ions in an unknown solution. V. To develop the skills of centrifuging, washing a precipitate, frame testing, and testing using a litmus paper. Introduction Qualitative analyses refers to the process of conducting two or more chemical tests in a bid to determine what is in a sample mainly a solution. This involves subjecting the unknown solution to several chemical reactions with known compounds and observing carefully while applying logical reasoning in order to make conclusions. The observations mainly used to make inferences are gas formation, color changes and formation of solid particles referred to as precipitates.
