A PRTD is a sensor used for accurate measurement of temperature by correlating the resistance of the Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) with temperature. The RTD element is usually made of a very fragile material held inside a protective sheath. The fragile material has a predictable change in its resistance upon a change in temperature and hence used to accurately determine temperature. It is very reliable in industrial set up where high degree of accuracy is called for.
