Week 1 1. Describe a situation in which you had to monitor and adjust your instruction during student teaching. What rationale did you use to make your decision?I had a situation like this today. We were in the middle of a math lesson on pictographs and bar graphs. We were filling in a bar graph as a class as to what the favorite colors were by the students. The students started to get off topic, restless, and seemed bored. I took a step back and just observed their behavior for a few seconds and realized I needed to work out of the math workbook with them instead of doing the activity we were doing. The activity we were doing had given the students too much free talk time after recess and I had a hard time getting them called down so they could focus and learn. It is very hard to teach math (or any subject for that matter) after recess. I honestly think we should have math in the mornings, but my CT teacher already has a schedule set with the students and they are all used to it. What do you all do when you lose the students attention or cannot gain it in the first place?2. Reflect on how instructional decision-making may influence the success of a lesson.
