American families shift from homemade meals to consider processed foods which save time, and these foods fit within our budget too. However, America does not go without facing consequences. For example, our health is in a crisis because most of the foods we eat are not safe. Stephen J. Dubner, author and journalist, wrote in his article, Is Americas Obesity Epidemic for Real? of F reakonomicsradio.com states, The federal government says that two of every three adults are overweight; and one-third of our children are officially obese (Dubner). Dawn Mcmullan, a writer, in the article, A Growing Challenge reports: Medically speaking, obesity is rated using something called the body mass index. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy; a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight; 30 to 34.9 or higher is considered obese; 35-39.9, is severely obese; and 40 or higher is morbidly obese" (Mcmullan).
