IntroductionThe learning competencies of the mathematics program of the 2002 Secondary Education Curriculum includeprogram competencies expected of a secondary school graduate;core competencies which contain the minimum essentials for each curriculum year; andcompetencies for Extended Learning which are additional competencies for advanced classes.Progression of competencies is by year level, unit to unit, across year levels and from simple to complex. The competencies reflect the strategies such as establishing relationships between quantities, looking for pattern, making prediction, etc. which emphasize higher order thinking skills.PROGRAM COMPETENCIES IN MATHEMATICSAfter undergoing the Mathematics program, the secondary school learner shall have developed the following competencies:1. Demonstrate skill in1.1 using measuring instruments;1.2 reading and interpreting graphs; 1.3 reading, simplifying and evaluating mathematical expressions/ equations; and1.4 using Information and Communication Technology (ICT)2. Demonstrate investigative attitude, analytical and creative thinking systematic counting, estimating, approximatingsound reasoningspatial perception and visualization3. Manifest ability in3.1 communicating and translating ideas to/from verbal and symbolic forms;3.2 visualizing abstract ideas using concrete models; and3.3 applying problem-solving skills to daily life situations.4. Appreciate the role/application of mathematics
