PalladinoPoint of Care TestingIntroduction:Many hospitals and laboratories around the country depend upon point of care instruments to allow both doctors and nurses to make faster diagnosis and allow a patient to begin treatment much faster than relying on the lab. Many labs are under workload stress due to the lack of technologists. Point of Care instruments allows individuals who are untrained use relatively easy equipment to receive reliable results. Thus allowing basic tests to be ran outside of a lab. Point of care instruments can be found in hospitals, rehab centers and some even in a patient's home.There are both advantages and disadvantages for point of care instruments. Although the instruments are fairly easy to use they are not being ran by actual lab professionals, which may lead to some results coming back incorrect due to lack of training or not following proper procedures. Also the way in which other departments report their results may not show within all hospital departments. However there are also some advantages to point of care instruments such as it allows the doctor to receive fairly quick results.
