Telematics allow wireless communications opening the possibilities to many new amazing communication and information technologies. Through telematics, a driver an access the internet from the vehicle or they can watch a television show. The possibilities are endless. In law enforcement this type of tool provides a wealth of communication opportunities which improve officer safety and investigatory capabilities while also providing a wealth of information.When a vehicle has GPS or a navigation system it can provide police with information for their investigation, such as the last location of the car or its current location. Another new tool being used by police involving telematics is the bait car. Auto theft is a growing crime. A bait car, also called a decoy car, is a vehicle used by a law enforcement agency to capture car thieves (SCADA, 2008). In other words police will place a nice car in an areas that s notorious for car thieves. Once the thief is in the car, police will use remote or wireless capabilities to trap the thief n the car or to shut the car down so it cannot be stolen.
