Factory Farming of AnimalsBobbie HoferPHI 103Christine NgMarch 20, 2015IntroductionI will argue that factory farming is cruel to animals because they are only given a short amount of time to live and they should not be mistreated during that time. The process of factory farming animals to produce a product faster through unnecessary means is cruel. The animals are mass produced for profit with no consideration on how the animal is raised. I will first present my argument as to why factory farming of animals is cruel regardless of the fate of the animals. Some may not agree and feel that since the animals are destined to be consumed, their life quality has no importance. My Original ArgumentFactory farmed animals only live a short time.Factory farmed animals are mistreated.Factory farmed animals are injected with chemicals to prevent disease and make them grow faster.Factory farmed animals are housed poorly. Therefore, factory farming of animals is cruel and in-humane.When an animal has been born in a factory, they are destined to be treated horribly until they reached the age of slaughter. Some animals, such as the chicken, will only be allowed to exist for a few months before they are transported to be slaughtered. While cows and pigs may have a bit longer there is still no reason to make that time unpleasant for them. Individuals have a tendency to remove themselves from the thoughts of how short these types of animal lives actually are.
