The criminal justice system is currently facing a plethora of challenges based on the current crime control model. Retribution has been the goal of the criminal justice system since the beginning of the War on Drugs and the new tough stance on crime being taken by society. While it would seem that by harshly punishing criminal offenders it would set an example for other members of society and deter criminal offenders from committing further crimes but unfortunately this has not been the actual result. The criminal justice stance on retribution with a little rehabilitation has resulted in major challenges for the criminal justice system and members of society. Instead of criminal offenders being deterred from committing further criminal offenses after being released instead the offenders are released back into society to commit further crimes resulting in a high rate of recidivism.
