The budget allocates resources and outlines agency objectives as well as prioritizes how funds will be spent. The major components of the budget are the revenues and the expenditures. Expenditures are the funds that will be spent on specific programs within the governmental agency while revenues are the funds that are raised by the agency. The types of revenue sources will differ depending on the agency and their goals. One revenue source for the Federal, state, and local government is taxes. In the federal government taxes that are paid in by the citizen to fund the activities of the federal government include corporate, federal income and capital gains taxes as well as inheritance, property, and social security taxes.
