In 1995, the Galileo spacecraft dropped a probe into Jupiter’s atmosphere. One instrument on board, call a mass spectrometer, was used to determine the composition of the atmosphere. The data shows in Figure 1 are called mass spectrum, a record of the masses of atoms and molecules that were encountered.

INTRODUCTIONElectromagnetic induction is the generation of electrical energy using magnetism (magnetic fields) in the process.The process generates a voltage - called an induced voltage or (to use it's scientific description) an induced 'electromotive force' (emf). When this induced voltage causes an electric current we call that an induced current. Electric generators use the processes of e-m induction.The process is basically quite simple - a wire (conductor) has to be moved through a magnetic field (so that it crosses magnetic field lines) and an induced voltage 'appears' within the wire. A transfer of energy has occurred . The energy required to move this wire re-appearing as electrical energy.Simply moving a length of wire through a normal magnetic field will only generate a tiny induced emf/current ... this is increased by using long lengths of wire (coiled), stronger magnets and moving the wire faster (eg turning the generator faster).HistoryElectromagnetic induction was discovered independently byMichael FaradayandJoseph Henryin 1831; however, Faraday was the first to publish the results of his experiments. In Faraday's first experimental demonstration (August 29, 1831), he wrapped two wires around opposite sides of an iron ring or "torus" (an arrangement similar to a moderntoroidal transformer).
