The events of September 11, 2001 forever changed how the police would respond to potential terrorist threats in society. Because of failures of the proper dissemination of information the attacks that could have potentially been prevented resulted in the death of thousands of Americans and the recognition of the real threat of terrorism to American society. After the terrorist attack the federal government took a proactive stance to prevent any further terrorist attacks against American citizens through the establishment of Homeland Security and the USA Patriot Act. Since the devastating attacks on American soil the way law enforcement approaches policing methods to identify, investigate detain, and arrest terroristic offenders have drastically changed. There is no longer a ban on the sharing of information amongst local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and information is now disseminated through the proper channels.
