Greek Political DisunityNameClassDate ProfessorGreek Political Disunity Greece plays a powerful role in the world's history but it was in fact confined to a small geographic area and the empire was short lived. The area was located on the Aegean Sea and numerous mountain ranges crisscrossed the peninsula. Due to the numerous mountainous ranges travel was difficult and cities would emerge in the valleys between the ranges and areas in the indented coastlines. The area created difficulties with communications with the main government of Greece and as a result fiercely independent city-states emerged. This failure of the Greeks to unite into a single state caused political disunity but resulted in a strong shipping trade. The Greek Dark Ages occurred after the country was invaded by the Dorian and much like other medieval territories on the globe the society was aristocratic. The people worshipped Gods, such as Zeus the King of Gods and Hera his wife, who had distinct human like behaviors and only the aristocrats were allowed to have any type of wealth. Territories in Greece were owned by Tribal Kings of Chiefs of a clan and common people in society
