It is clear that labor unions do more harm than solve problems since they increase labor costs and do not work to benefit the business health. Companies are becoming more aggressive in ensuring unions stay out of the employer-employee relationship by employing avoidance strategies. Companies also recognize that it is important for them to treat employees well, by being more proactive in tackling labor issues, to achieve this. Companies develop strategic approaches to protect against union drives and calls for unionization. They improve employee relations by implementing open door policies among other things. This paper seeks to examine why companies are targets for labor unions and how organizations can avoid falling prey to union action by employees.
