Ritzer based his theory on Max Weber's rationalization theory which includes four specific components that are used to develop a rational response that include efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. In other words instead of accomplishing a task or goal a specific way because that is the way it was done by past generations, McDonaldization goals are met using new and more innovative decision making models. Rationalization is a sociological term that simply means the substitution of logically consistent rules over illogical rules (Leigh, 2006). McDonaldization requires in order for there to be task efficiency large tasks must be broken down into smaller tasks in order to develop a single efficient method for each part of the task.
