This era focuses mostly on Western Europe before the Renaissance. During this time there were few historians that kept a written record making it more difficult to provide a definitive description of the time period. What is known is that the people became more focused on religion especially Christianity and the Muslim faith than any civilization before. Progress in the West during this time was halted and instead the focus was on religion. The search for knowledge through academic scholars, philosophers, and artists were replaced with feudalism, war, and religious societies. Religion The Dark Ages was a time of religion and the people were focused on leading and living a life designed by God. Gone was the immoral behavior associated with Roman society and in its wake a religious society began to emerge. The Dark Ages began after Christianity began to spread across the globe and the new religion resulted in the emergence of Catholic Churches that regulated the follower's religious beliefs. At the same time members of the Muslim faith spread across Middle Eastern, Asian, and African countries as Arabs conquered the fallen Roman cities.
