Chapter 2
Summary

Anastasia finally leaves Grey Enterprises building and she signs in relief. She is happy that she has escaped Christian’s firm gaze and unintended attraction developed during the interview. She first catches her breath before driving off to Vancouver. On the way, she is thinking about Grey and the conversation just as it happened. She realizes that she is really attracted to him than she thought, but she tries to shove the feelings away.

At home, she finds Kate who looks better but still sick. Kate asks about the interview and details on Christian Grey. However, Ana is all jumpy and tries to elude the questions by answering them pointlessly. She expresses her disappointment at not having a biography before the meeting, and Kate apologizes. Ana also decides to rush to Clayton’s, her workplace. She thinks that being at work will help her forget about Grey. After work, she goes back into their apartment and Kate exercises her inquisitive behavior to the maximum. That night, Ana dreams about Grey.

As the week continues, she keeps herself busy with studies and work. She calls her mom who instantly guesses about her meeting someone. Ana talks about José’s visit that Friday, and details about their profound friendship. On that Saturday, Grey shows up at Clayton’s and his presence shakes Ana’s equilibrium. Ideally, Grey is there to purchase different things such as rope, masking tape, coveralls and cables ties. The two talk about different subjects and Ana mentions the need for an original photo for the article. Grey gives her his card so that she may contact him for a photo shoot. This makes Ana happy, as it will surely brighten Kate while giving her a chance to see Grey again.

Analysis

The author shows the readers how Ana handles herself after meeting Christian. It is clear that she has fallen in love with him, and the thought of him amuses her. She even dreams about him thus cementing her deep feelings for him. However, she distracts herself with studies and works, efforts aimed at erasing the thought of Grey. James introduces the character José as a way of portraying the deepness of Ana’s attraction. Ideally, José seems to need more than just friendship, but Ana is not able to meet his desires, as she does not feel the same. However, it is Grey who her nerves shake on whenever she thinks about him. Apart from that, the instance of Ana calling her mother shows her need for love. Despite hiding the truth, it is clear that she yearns to tell her about the encounter in details, but she is afraid that she may never see Grey again.

The distraction works for some time but the author fabricates a way to ignite the attraction again. Grey coming to shop at the Clayton’s is to ensure that he meets Ana once again. This meeting allows them to discuss various topics, a sure way of improving their friendship. It also paves a way for a third meeting considering that Ana has to plan for a photo shoot.
