Chapter 6
Summary

After leaving the hotel, the two get into a black Audi SUV and Grey drives Ana home. They listen to music on the way and Grey takes several calls. They also talk about the music they like, and Grey mentions some of his favorite artists. Surprisingly, he drives her to her house even without asking for directions. On arrival, they meet Elliot and Kate who seem cozy and already in love. Elliot even gives Kate a long passionate kiss before leaving, and this makes Ana somehow jealous. She wonders why Grey avoids doing such loving actions, and he only tucks her hair and touches her lower lip before leaving. After the two bother gets in the car, the two girls talk about the encounters for a while.

Ana goes to work and time seems sluggish. Later that evening, Grey arrives in time and picks Ana. His driver drives them to a certain location where they take the elevator to the roof. There is a helicopter with the name Grey Enterprises Holdings Inc. waiting for them (James 72). They board and Grey fastens Ana safety belt ensuring that she is secure. He also fastens himself and communicates with the controllers on his take off. The view from high up is mesmerizing and intriguing to Ana. She asks a few questions about flying and Grey manages to answer them all. They finally arrive in Seattle and the helicopter lands on the building where Grey resides.

They enter his home and everything amuses Ana. She feels like she is soaring in a completely new world, as everything seems enormously expensive. They drink white wine and Grey comes with a non-disclosure document that he needs Ana to sign. Surprisingly, she signs even without reading the contents of the agreement (James 79). However, Grey still offers her a chance to leave but she chooses to stay. He then leads her into his playroom where the author leaves the reader in suspense of Ana’s discovery.

Analysis

Grey wants to maintain his gentleman-personality by thinking every detail of his actions before taking any steps. For instance, he always opens and holds every door to allow Ana to pass. He is also cautious in his words in efforts not to hurt Ana in any way. The author also shows Grey’s adventurous character through his hobbies and the trip to Seattle. Occasionally, he exercises his power over his employees and he never thanks them for their efforts. Ana finds these characters confusing and she finds herself more intrigued by him. The helicopter travel is a sign of power and wealth. The writer portrays Grey as a man capable of anything, as he can have whatever he likes without hesitation. His wealth also indicates his power, and Ana finds it enticing to be involved in Grey’s life. The act of signing the NDA document without reading it shows that she is submissive to everything Grey wants, and she is ready to do whatever he needs her to do.
